Anthony Miranda has been appointed as Interim Police Chief, effective August 4, 2026. Miranda will lead the San Fernando Police Department while the City conducts a comprehensive recruitment for a permanent chief.

Police services and implementation of the Department’s Organizational Action Plan will continue without interruption.

Miranda brings more than 35 years of public safety experience in Los Angeles County, including 11 years leading law enforcement agencies and experience managing organizational transitions. He has served as police chief for the cities of Bell, Irwindale and Vernon and as a law enforcement liaison for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

“Chief Miranda’s experience stabilizing police departments during major transitions and modernizing public safety operations makes him well-suited to lead the Department while the City conducts a thorough recruitment for its next permanent police chief,” City Manager Kanika Kith said.

During his temporary assignment (June 10 through August 3), Acting Chief John Perez helped advance the Department’s Organizational Assessment Action Plan. The City thanks him for his service during the transition.

The recruitment for a permanent police chief is expected to take approximately four to six months. The City will provide multilingual opportunities for residents, businesses, employees and community stakeholders to offer input. Participation details and recruitment updates will be announced at SanFernando.gov.
