City Appoints Bonnie Tam as Public Works Director

The City of San Fernando is pleased to announce the appointment of Bonnie Tam as the City’s new Public Works Director. Tam officially joined the City on Monday, May 11, bringing nearly 20 years of local government experience in municipal operations, infrastructure planning, and public service leadership.
Tam most recently served as Public Works Administrator for the City of Ontario’s Public Works Agency, where she oversaw a $150 million operating budget and helped advance key capital and service initiatives. Her career also includes leadership roles with the Cities of Long Beach and Monterey Park, with extensive experience in budget development, capital improvement planning, operations, and organizational coordination.
“Bonnie’s experience in public works operations, infrastructure planning, and organizational leadership will be a tremendous asset to the City of San Fernando,” said City Manager, Kanika Kith. “She brings a thoughtful and collaborative approach to municipal service, along with a strong background in budgeting, capital planning, and operational management. We look forward to her leadership as we continue investing in infrastructure improvements and delivering reliable services to our community.”
Throughout her career, Tam has demonstrated leadership in municipal operations and cross-departmental collaboration, while supporting initiatives focused on infrastructure improvements, operational effectiveness, and community service delivery. She has also participated in and presented at conferences hosted by organizations including the League of California Cities, American Public Works Association, and Municipal Management Association of Southern California.
Tam holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree in criminology, Law and Society from the University of California, Irvine.
