SAN FERNANDO, CA – In response to the reported shooting that occurred yesterday involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel during an enforcement operation in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mayor Joel Fajardo issued the following statement condemning the act and the broader impacts of ongoing ICE operations across the country:
“As our community continues to grapple with the unconstitutional and dangerous policies set forth by the Trump administration over the past year, we have received yet another reminder yesterday of the lengths that federal agents may take in fulfilling the president's inhumane immigration agenda. Yesterday, ICE agents shot and killed Renee Good, who was unarmed, during an immigration enforcement operation in Minnesota. My thoughts are first and foremost with the Good family and their loved ones, and I wish them strength and healing. Incidents like this heighten fear and uncertainty, particularly for immigrant communities who are already navigating significant stress and trauma related to ongoing enforcement actions nationwide. Accountability, transparency, and restraint must remain central to public safety efforts, and the dignity and safety of every individual must be respected. The actions of ICE under the Trump administration have instead imperiled public safety in our community and in numerous others. The City stands with all communities impacted by immigration enforcement across the country and will continue working with our trusted partners to administer the San Fernando Together initiative, ensuring all residents, regardless of immigration status, feel supported in this challenging time.”
San Fernando residents impacted by immigration-related activities who are seeking supports such as food distributions, financial assistance, or legal and mental health services are encouraged to visit the Business and Community Resource Center at City Hall, located at 117 Macneil Street, or explore the San Fernando Together webpage at: www.sanfernando.gov/san-fernando-together/.
