MAYOR JOEL FAJARDO EXPRESSES OUTRAGE OVER THE KILLING OF ALEX PRETTI
SAN FERNANDO, CA – In response to the killing of Alex Pretti, who was fatally shot by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis on January 24, 2026, and in light of widespread public concern over the conduct of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and related federal operations, Mayor Joel Fajardo issued the following statement condemning the violence, expressing outrage over reports of troubling behavior by federal enforcement personnel, and calling for full accountability:
“I am outraged by the killing of Alex Pretti and the troubling reports of unlawful conduct surrounding this incident and others involving federal immigration agents. Our communities demand and deserve conduct that is lawful, transparent, and just. The disturbing accounts of federal agents blocking state law enforcement from accessing the scene and ongoing public protests highlight deep concerns about the unconstitutional operations being executed and the standards of accountability being applied. Violence like this must not be ignored. We stand with Alex Pretti’s family and all those grieving, and we call for a complete, unbiased investigation that leads to full accountability. The ongoing violence by ICE must stop immediately — it is tearing apart our nation and undermining the safety and trust our communities deserve.”
