Historic Preservation
In 2025-2026, the City staff and Rincon Consultants conducted a reconnaissance-level citywide historic survey and prepared a focused historic context. The focus historic context provides a narrative and associated themes of significance for the following time periods: Early Development of San Fernando (1874-1910), Early Cityhood (1911-1945) Post-World War II Suburbanization (1946-1979). The survey provides an overview of the common architectural styles found in the city, along with their associated character-defining features: Folk Victorian, American Colonial Revival, Mission Revival, Tudor Revival, Craftsman, Mediterranean, Spanish Colonial, Ranch, Minimal Traditional, Art Deco, Streamline Moderne, and Mid-Century Modern. A total of 324 properties have been evaluated during this study, and 221 of them were identified as potential historic resources.
